A Bad Cake: Minion of Despicable Me

Despicable Me has become one of our family's favorite movies. I was so thrilled that a friend asked me to make one for his brother's birthday. I have done several fondant cakes but this one is probably the first where I get to take photos of the step-by-step process.

Before and during the making of this cake, I searched some clear photos of the minions, I also have the small figures from Mc Donald's happy meal and a stuffed toy beside me. That's just to make sure I get most of the details needed to make it look more like the minion.

Baked on two 6" Springform Pans
Used Wilton Food Color - Lemon Yellow

For the goggles, I cut 16 small circles using an icing tip. I put 8 around each goggle then I sprayed with Wilton color mist.

I cut royal blue fondant with size proportioned to the cake. I embellished by using the small tool tip shown above (in fondant they are used for the leaves) so it will look like it has been sewn.

I just added some details on the goggles' strap to make it look nicer. Also note that the minions have 3 fingers and they wear some kind of school shoes.

For more questions, feel free to comment and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

    1. Thanks, that's what they always say with fondant cakes. They just want to 'preserve' it. I should have made 'cakes' out of styro. LOL. Just kidding!
