Fresh or Frozen Breakfast?

The school has just started and for some families, it means busy days ahead. Meal preparation can be one of the culprits in consuming your time. Imagine the need to prepare two meals - breakfast and lunch (not even counting snacks) right after waking up. I can imagine the scene.

So, what is actually better, getting prepared meals or cooking fresh food? I find them equally beneficial, let's discuss what they are.

1. Pre-packaged meal - This type of food can be ready in a minute! You need not do anything but get them from the freezer or fridge in some cases. They may not be an immediate hit for your family that's why you have to try it first to find what you like best. Also, you just got to choose what's right for your diet. Some Hormel Compleats are gluten-free and comes in varieties like Chicken & Rice, Sausage Gravy & Roasted Potatoes and Bacon Breakfast Scramble & Sausage Breakfast Scramble.
Hormel Compleats come in other flavors too.
2. Cooked from scratch - I know, not really from scratch because most are already seasoned, but you still have to cook it, right? ;) The thing I like with home-made meals or meals from scratch is you can incorporate what kind of ingredients you like. Whether you prefer natural, organic, no-MSG, gluten-free, you a free to add whatever you like! Well, I guess it's a good thing Hormel Natural Choice is all of it! It doesn't even have that Nitrate/Nitrite thing! Although, the preparation time depends on method of cooking - I like mine either fried or oven-baked.
Look at that plate. Whether fried or oven-baked, I know now what my picky 3-year old would eat! I guess next time, it won't be as hard to feed her. I hope she'd start to eat the Hormel Natural Choice ham with whole-grain bread. :)

So, dear parents, I think it doesn't really matter much whether it fresh or frozen. The ingredients are listed and you can read the nutrition facts. You just got to choose what you think is best for you family, especially if you're into some special kind of diet.

  4. Great breakfast ideas! I am still at work when my sons have to get ready for school. Although they are now grown and can make their own breakfast, it seems that they still choose the easy way out - - walk over to grandma's house for breakfast! There are frozen dinners here too, however, their serving size is too small.

  6. Preparing your kid's school snacks and lunch plus breakfast at home is really time-consuming. I'm one of those moms who have to wake up early every school day to do this. What's frustrating is when your little one barely touches his "baon." Sigh! And oh, I'm okay with frozen breakfast from time to time.

  7. If you're pressed for time, then do what you have to do. Sometimes we eat frozen waffle for breakfast because it's so much easier pop them in the toaster. But because I'm Pinay, I still eat rice for breakfast, preferably sinangag :)

  15. Mom always cooks from scratch as she appreciates fresh ingredients she bought from the wet market. We are picky eaters at home too and carefully read the nutrition facts of certain food.

  16. I prefer a fresh made breakfast when I can have it, but there are days when a frozen option is more ideal.

  17. I always try to stay away from pre-packaged or already-cooked frozen meals. Things that are obviously not good for you and the like. Fresh is always the way to go.

  18. I have to say these don't look that appealing to me with the exception of the roast beef. That looks pretty good.

  19. I think its definitely nice if you have limited time and limited options. For me its very hard to choose a meal I'd microwave in a plastic container and lid with all the plastics and cancer warnings out there, but then again, this may be the perfect time saver for a lot of families.

  28. We usually don't have a lot of time so we will have oatmeal or cereal. Sometimes I will make eggs or frozen waffles.

  29. We never had frozen breakfasts when I was growing up. And I haven't done them to my son either. There're not many options here either.

  33. We don't really do frozen breakfast unless it is like french toast bites and dont have the time to make french toast (which sounds really good right about now, lol). Other then that we make everything. =) Thank you for sharing!
