What to Serve Surprise Guests

I have a few friends who came over for a surprise visit. It was almost midnight and I didn't know what to serve them and their kids. I looked at the pantry and saw some Keebler cookies, then my problem was solved in an instant! For kids I just had to pair the chocolate chip cookies with milk, for adults, with coffee! :)

 

I have to say that these Keebler Simply Made chocolate chip cookies has a slight but recognizable taste compared to Chips Ahoy. First, it is less sweet and second it has a nutty aftertaste, like that of peanut butter. I don't really like peanut-buttered cookies so I didn't really like it at first bite. And then I finished one, and tried one again. Then I realized it gets more delicious everytime. I stopped at five pieces because if I continue, I won't have anything left for my guests. LOL.

In my observation, the kids really loved the cookies! I think my daughter will start putting this in the grocery cart! Haha! Now it's time for me.. rather, us, to try another Keebler cookie!

Table-Perfect Party Desserts

 

I recently hosted a baby shower for my cousin and I found dipped treats the best way to fill up the desserts table quickly but nicely. I bought strawberries, pretzel sticks and large marshmallows to be dipped in chocolates and two differents brands of chocolates just to try which one tastes good.

 

1.Wilton Candy Melts - They are the cheapest melting chocolates I know if you use 50% off coupon. The original price was $2.99 and you can buy them from Michael's, Jo-Ann's and A.C. Moore. It's smooth but I think there was an aftertaste, like a baby's unflavored liquid medicine. But if you are concerned about the price, this is the best thing there is. They offer a lot of colors too - pink, red, brown, black and more. They have milk and white, I do not think they have dark/bittersweets.

2. Ghirardelli White Melting Chocolates - I have tried other Ghirardelli brands for baking before so I thought of trying this just to know how it taste. I bought this on sale for $2.98 and that was a fairly good price because I know they're made from quality ingredients. I was not wrong. The white chocolate tastes good. The texture is smooth. I like this better than the first one just because there's no aftertaste. I think they also have the milk chocolate flavor but I am not sure about the bittersweet ones.

Here are some tips:
* Both chocolates can be melted at 30-second interval in a microwave. I suggest that you open the microwave door everytime just to release the heat and then start again. I use at most 10 pieces and just add some more as needed. Do not try to heat it for more than 30 seconds especially if the power of your oven is high, because you will burn them. The taste will become bitter and it will turn dry.
* You can melt them in a double-broiler. Also, I have tried melting some before on a glass cookware and it worked just fine. I placed the chocolates before I even started turning on the stove in a low heat.
* You can try dipping the regular chocolate bars too, like Hershey's, if you know most of your guests will like it. Just cut it in cubes so it'll melt easily. Do not try to put the whole bar.
* Add sprinkles and edible pearl candies for presentation. Be creative!

For me, the easiest way is still the microwave. But whatever method you choose, try a few chocolate first to see how it works so there's not much waste.

Healthy Snack in Back-to-School Pack

I am an active House Party member and I always apply whenever they post an open application to host. I recently got accepted in to trying and sharing Udi's Gluten Free products. I am so grateful for their generosity and also because of the tried and tested the quality. I have shared in my other social medias about the other products like pizzas, granolas and bread. For this post, I am going to review what they call "muffin tops".

 

First flavor, the Udi's Gluten Free Blueberry Oat, this I'd say is my 2-year old's favorite. She actually calls it cookie, it does look like a cookie, it's just that it's soft. There are four muffin tops in a box and each is separately packed in a plastic wrap, as you can see in the photo. That's makes it perfect as kids snack for school. The bread itself is moist and soft but enough to eat with bare hands. For OCD moms, I suggest eat it with a fork if you don't want crumbs to fall. You'd want to save the crumbs because you don't want to waste the delicious treat. As for serving at home, I just unwrap them and toss in it the oven for 10 seconds, just right to not feel the coldness because I have sensitive teeth. If you want a warmer one, add more time.

The Chocolate Chia is also as soft and moist. It has some chocolate chips and the texture is more like a wheat bread. The sweetness is just right, you can eat two servings without having the need to drink water.

So having tried and tested it, am I going to continue munching on them? Yes! First, because it's a healthier option for me, and second, because my daughter liked it. :)

Who Wants Cake for Dessert?

Last night, my family and I had a yummy 3-layer cake for dessert and no I didn't bake it, but I thought it was great! It's Pepperidge Farm's 3-layer Chocolate Cake.

It's uncommon for me to buy cakes to bring home for dessert, we normally buy them to bring at birthday parties and anniversaries. Cakes which are mostly not consumed at all and are only there solely for picture-taking! Even if we are in a big group and there are lots of kids, I wonder why cakes are always taken for granted, maybe because they see them almost in every occasion? I don't know but I love bringing them because it's like a must-have for any occasion, especially if the person loves blowing candles and making wishes.

Anyway, last night, my husband went to the grocery store and found a chocolate fudge cake in the frozen section. He took one home besides the ice cream that I requested. When I saw the box, I immediately looked for the brand because I thought of not eating it. I read it was Pepperidge Farm. I soooo love their products, I honestly didn't know they had cakes too. I told myself that I am probably going to enjoy it. I was so excited to finish my meal so I can finally have a slice. And I tell you, I was not wrong with my prediction, it really is good! The whole cake is covered with chocolate which of course is pleasing to the taste of those with sweet tooth. I must say it's smooth and kind of creamy. The 3-layer cake itself isn't so sweet at all which I think is good to balance the taste. Also, as you can see in the product, the toppings are not nuts, they're milk and white chocolate curls. I didn't read the note and I thought they were nuts, I'm okay with whatever, I just thought I'd tell you.

I enjoyed it so much that I ended up having two slices and my husband had the same equal share.  I reserved half of the cake for later and I am excited to eat dinner again!

Having tried and tested the product, am I going to buy it again? For sure! I'll probably start bringing the same thing for our next events and I bet the box will be left empty!

The Best #Chocolate #Milk Ever!

I have been for awhile looking for a great-tasting chocolate milk for my whole family. Look at what I bumped into, Organic Valley!

The first time I tasted it was when I ordered a kid's meal for my little one from The Corner Bakery just a month ago. She was not able to finish it because she was so full, so I did! This chocolate milk is so delicious, not-so-sweet and refreshing. The taste is smooth but not that creamy, which makes it even yummier!

I didn't really look for it in the market, I just bumped into it while we were grocery-shopping at BJ's Wholesale Club. I was so delighted upon seeing it so I immediately put a box in the cart without knowing the price! Even my husband remembered the packaging. But I made a huge mistake, I should have taken three boxes, not just one, because we only have one tetra pack left, and it's reserved for my little one's snack tomorrow.

I am reading the packaging right now and it says, "Produced without antibiotics, synthetic hormones and toxic pesticides." Now, isn't that a good news? This is going to be perfect for the whole family, I need not worry about GMO's! You should know it's also a Fair Trade product, which helps developing communities and advocates environmental standards. 

Having tried and tested, Organic Valley's Chocolate Lowfat Milk, I am definitely buying some more and I am going to join their mailing list so I can receive coupons!
